Arizona Families For Children is a non-profit organization that has been helping to facilitate the adoption of special needs children since 1971. The projects of Arizona Families For Children are the Adoption Information Center located in Tucson and the Arizona Adoption Exchange Book, a photolisting of waiting children, which is distributed to Arizona libraries, adoption agencies and parent support groups. Our services are available to all searching families.

If you are pregnant and considering making an adoption plan for your child, we can help you sort through the many emotions and questions you may have. Counseling is provided to you by a trained professional experienced in adoption issues who will provide supportive, non-judgmental counseling. Only you can decide what is best for you and your child. You will always be treated with dignity and respect.

We know that people and families who need diapers probably need other social services as well. Instead of reinventing another social service delivery system, we provide diapers to existing organizations that work with people in need. Our partners include: crisis nurseries, domestic violence shelters, senior centers, and congregations for a variety of religious affiliations.

The Southern Arizona Community Diaper Bank, the first diaper bank in the nation and possibly the world, is truly unique as a model for other diaper banks around the country.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

The Community Food Bank, Founded in 1976, has grown into a facility that acquires, stores and distributes 14 million pounds of food annually throughout Pima County. The Community Food Bank strives to reduce the impact of hunger and chronic malnutrition through programs of advocacy and nutrition education.

Through education, advocacy and the acquisition, storage, and distribution of food, we will anticipate and meet the food needs of the hungry in our community.

Arizona Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) is a federally funded program providing residents with nutritious foods, nutrition education, and referrals. WIC serves pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet WIC

AHCCCS is Arizona’s Medicaid program, designed to deliver quality health care under cutting-edge concepts of managed care. Over the years, independent evaluations repeatedly have praised the program’s effectiveness. AHCCCS has received national acclaim as a model for other Medicaid programs and the approach has been recommended to other states by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that oversees AHCCCS.

There are several AHCCCS programs available for families with children under the age of 19. AHCCCS Care, KidsCare, Arizona Families and Children, Medical Expense Deductions and SOBRA for Children are programs that aid children or the family as a whole. There is also coverage available for the parents of children covered by the KidsCare and SOBRA programs.

There are several AHCCCS programs available for children under age 19. AHCCCS Care, KidsCare, SOBRA for Children and Arizona Long Term Care are programs that aid children. Young Adult Transitional Insurance (YATI) aids young adults under the age of 21.

In an effort to allow for greater coordination and innovation of housing related services at the state level, the Legislature passed and Governor Jane Dee Hull signed HB2615 during the 2001 legislative session, establishing the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH) and the Arizona Housing Finance Authority (AZHFA). These two entities were established so that state government in Arizona could assist in developing the tools to impact an area of growing concern for the state, an issue that impacts the lives of all Arizonans—homes for working families.

There are two Section 8 programs available through the Arizona Public Housing Authority

Project-Based Rental Assistance is available to those who meet certain criteria based on income, size of family, etc.

Housing Choice Voucher Program is available only in Yavapai County through the Arizona Public Housing Authority. The waiting list is currently closed for the state's allotment of 89 vouchers. For information on availability in other Arizona counties, contact the housing authority for that county.

Habitat for Humanity Tucson offers an innovative solution to the crisis of poverty housing by giving a hand up, not a hand out.

Center Against Domestic Abuse. Emerge!, the largest domestic abuse shelter and provider of domestic abuse prevention services and programs in Southern Arizona, includes:

• Two emergency shelters
• Two housing programs
• Two outreach and advocacy centers
• An accredited community-based childcare center that is open to the public
• Prevention, education, and volunteer programs

• We’re committed to improving and expanding services to all members of our community who are experiencing domestic abuse in their lives.

Every child who dies from abuse or neglect, who has no shelter or food, who becomes ill from disease or lack of love, diminishes us all. Casa de los Niños helps build a strong community one child, one family at a time. Since 1973 Casa de los Niños has extended a helping hand to children and families in need. Committed to preventing child abuse and neglect, our shelter and family service programs have provided aid and support to over 50,000 children and families.

Casa de los Niños is dedicated to serving our most vulnerable children and helping families in crisis. This 24/7 program meets the physical, emotional and developmental needs of children birth through eight who have families in crisis, are victims of family violence, or are homeless. In addition to a warm bed, three meals, and clothing the children in shelter care receive medical and developmental services and their parents are provided education and family support services.

Crisis shelter services can provide parents with the break they need to handle a family emergency or crisis; and offers a skilled medical staff to meet the needs of children with special health care needs. Services are available to all families in Arizona.
