Choosing a method that's right for you

Choosing a good birth control method can be very difficult. Not only are there many new products available, but one should also consider if additional protection is needed to prevent against sexually transmitted infections (STI's). The chart below is a summary of those methods most often asked about. It is not an exhaustive list. Plan BPlan B Emergency Contraceptive Pill

An FDA approved emergency contraceptive that can be used to prevent pregnancy following unprotected intercourse.

To obtain optimal efficiency, the first tablet should be taken as soon as possible within 72 hours of intercourse. The second tablet must be taken 12 hours later.

When used correctly, Plan B can reduce the risk of pregnancy by 89% after a single act of unprotected sex.
