On July 13th, 2009, Governor Jan Brewer signed the abortion omnibus bill into law. Click here to read the law. Supporters of this bill believe that it will empower women who are considering abortion by mandating a 24 hour “reflection period”. Thus far, there is little if any scientific evidence to support or refute this view. We at Tucson Women’s Center believe that decisions that impact your health should be guided by accurate data rather than partisan bickering. This is why we are collaborating with the University of California San Francisco to determine the effect that this 24 hour waiting period will have on patients who decide to terminate their pregnancies. If you are scheduled for, or have recently had a pregnancy termination at our office, we strongly urge you to participate in our survey. We welcome both those patients who support and who oppose the 24 hour waiting period to participate so that we can collect data that accurately reflects your views. We will use the data collected to inform legislators and policy makers about the opinions of those whose healthcare is being effected by their decisions. |
